Biography

Hello! Welcome to my personal research website. I am a quantitative wildlife ecologist studying in the Program in Ecology at the University of Wyoming.

My research focuses on methods for improving ecological inference about population dynamics and trends across taxonomic groups. For my dissertation, I have three case studies– estimating Shiras moose (Alces alces shiras) abundance in Bighorn Nation Forest, Wyoming; estimating and identifying climate variables associated with Collared pika (Ochotona collaris) abundance in Alaska, and identifying drivers of population dynamics in a steeply declining aerial insectivore, the Olive-sided Flycatcher (Contopus cooperi). Though these species and systems are very different on their face, I am using similar methods in each case to answer questions about population dynamics. I am modeling each of these processes in flexible, hierarchical Bayesian frameworks to make the most of available data.

Prior to graduate school, I spent several years studying small mammals and shorebirds in Alaska. I am broadly interested in bridging the gap between applied boots-on-the-ground field studies and ecological statistics. I’m particularly interested in dynamic integrative data models and their utility for describing and forecasting ecological responses to climate change.

In addition to investigations of the scientific nature, I enjoy capturing the enormous biodiversity of our world through photos. I strive to capture the unique beauty, morphology, and behaviors of wildlife. I am also a mountain biker, dog dad, skier, and homebrewer. I am based in Fairbanks, Alaska.
